The Olympic National Forest announces that permits for holiday trees are now available.
Once you get your permit and map, you may cut your very own holiday tree from designated areas in Olympic National Forest.
Permits are available from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, with special weekend hours at different locations, excluding Thanksgiving Day. For more information, contact Olympic National Forest Headquarters at 360-956-2402.
Special weekend hours: Saturday, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Weekend Hours: Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Permits will be available through Friday, Dec. 23.

Free holiday trees to fourth-graders
The U.S. Forest Service announces that all fourth-graders are eligible for a free holiday tree permit through the national Every Kid in a Park initiative. Olympic National Forest offices in Quilcene and Forks will have these permits available through Dec. 23.
Regular office hours are 8-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, excluding federal holidays.

In order for students to receive a free tree permit, they must present in person a valid paper voucher printed from the Every Kid in a Park website or a current EKIP pass.
Visit www.everykid inapark.gov and follow instructions to obtain the paper voucher. Print out the paper voucher and bring the paper voucher with you to a National Forest office to claim the free permit.
