Youth Services Director Mary Budke introduced the Rotary Club of Sequim’s 2016-2017 Student of the Month Program in the club’s monthly board meeting in November.
Students will be selected not only on the basis of academic achievement, but also on community service and personal character based upon Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” and its famous “Four Way Test,” which reads, “Of the things we think, say and do: 1. Is it the truth? 2. Is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
The club will be selecting students for this prestigious award on a monthly basis as they are nominated by Sequim High School teachers and staff. Presentation of the awards will be made once each quarter in a special meeting to allow parents, friends and school officials to attend.
“The updated Student of the Month selection process will bring the program more in line with the current role of Rotary and its evolving mission within the community,” Budke said.
The revised program was coordinated with Dr. Ann Renker, assistant superintendent of teaching and learning, and Sequim High School Principal Shawn Langston.
The board recognized Patra Boots, Sequim School District’s executive director of technology/assessment, for her noteworthy role in overseeing the program for more than a decade prior to her recent retirement from the club.
Club president Edward Ebling announced the club plans to make its first awards in December. Get more information about the club information at www.sequimrotary.org and SequimNoonRotary on Facebook.
