Volunteer Liam Antrim has been named CoastSaver of the Year by Washington CoastSavers.

Antrim (right) was awarded the 2016 CoastSaver of the Year award recently by Jon Schmidt (left), Washington CoastSavers coordinator.

Antrim, who lives in Sequim, is the resource protection specialist at the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. He has been involved with beach cleanups since the first Washington Coast Cleanup in 2000.

In earlier years, Antrim staffed volunteer registration stations at Kalaloch, Three Rivers, Hoh River and Neah Bay, and he organized the first International Coastal Cleanup efforts on the northern Olympic Coast from the Ozette station in 2012.

Antrim oversaw coordination meetings that led to the formation of the Washington Clean Coast Alliance and its CoastSavers program in 2007. He has remained in a leadership role with the alliance, serving on its steering and executive committees.

Schmidt said, “Liam was my mentor from the start, his calm demeanor, keen insight and willingness to share his knowledge has made my job a lot easier.”

Washington CoastSavers is an alliance of partners and volunteers dedicated to keeping the state’s beaches clean of marine debris through coordinated cleanups, education and prevention.

The next coast-wide beach cleanup will be April 29.
