The defense is sound, Sequim coach Larry Brown said, but the offense simply can’t get going.
Sequim’s Wolves saw their winless streak extend to five games last week, following losses to league leaders North Kitsap and Olympic, and a non-league loss to Friday Harbor.
“We just can’t finish,” Brown said, noting his team’s eighth consecutive game shooting less than 30 percent from the field after Saturday’s 32-25 defeat against the visiting 2B Friday Harbor squad.
“We have some good shooters,” he said. “The last couple of weeks, (our) shots aren’t falling.”
Sequim started the week with a 46-31 loss at Olympic on Jan. 17 and looked to rebound three days later at North Kitsap.
But the Vikings, ahead 14-9 after one quarter, shut out the Wolves 9-0 in the second quarter and ran away with the 52-29 decision.
Lauren Weins led the Vikings with 12 points.
Hope Glasser scored eight and Ella Christiansen added seven for Sequim.
In a back and-forth Jan. 21 game, Friday Harbor’s Wolverines had a two-point lead (8-6) after the first quarter but outscored Sequim 11-2 in the second. The Wolves closed the gap to 24-21 after three before falling, 32-25.
Christiansen led the Wolves with 10 points. Adrienne Haggerty added seven.
Ciera Bailey paced Friday Harbor’s offense with 18 points.
Looking ahead
Sequim was scheduled to host Kingston on Jan. 24 — results were not available at press time.
The Wolves play a boys-girls varsity doubleheader at Port Angeles on Jan. 27. Sequim then plays a pair of road games — at Coupeville on Jan. 30 and North Mason on Jan. 31 — before finishing the season at home against Coupeville on Feb. 2.
