WSU Clallam County Master Gardener Elaine Webber will provide tips for healthy drought-resistant, low-maintenance gardens at two upcoming lectures.
On Saturday, June 3, Webber will describe the characteristics and growing conditions for several drought-resistant varieties of native and ornamental conifers, deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs, and groundcovers in Pacific Northwest gardens.
Her focus will be on what to plant. The presentation will begin at 10 a.m. at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road, Sequim.
On Thursday, June 8, Webber will go into more depth on how to select and manage appropriate plants, sites, soils and hardscapes to create a water-wise landscape. She will discuss benefits to drought-tolerant landscaping, choosing plants, soil and site management, limiting the use of turf and efficient watering.
This presentation will take place at noon in the county commissioners meeting room at the Clallam County Courthouse in Port Angeles.
Webber has degrees in botany and general science, holds an advanced degree in biology and has more than 30 years of teaching experience. She has established drought-tolerant gardens at three previous homes and is in the process of transforming her current property to a beautiful water-wise landscape. Her gardens were featured on the front page of the Snoqualmie Valley Record in an article about drought-tolerant garden.
Both presentations are sponsored by the Clallam County Master Gardeners. For more information, call 565-2679.
