Christian music workshop set for July 17-21

Dungeness Community Church in Sequim is hosting its first of what organizers hope to be an annual Dungeness Christian Music Workshop this July.

The workshop is slated for 9 a.m.-8:45 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 17-21, at the church, 45 Eberle Lane.

A free concert open to the public is set for 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 21, at the church’s auditorium.

The workshop is open to singers and instrumentalists of all ages. This workshop offers lessons in several aspects of Christian music, including: strategies for enhancing teamwork and musicianship in contemporary worship teams; vocal ensembles — all genres; small jazz combos; large jazz big band; classes in bowed strings; MIDI technology seminars; percussion clinics, and ear training and improvisation.

The workshop faculty includes:

• Vern Fosket, Sequim High School band director

• Craig Buhler, Stardust Dance band director

• Hannah Jensen, Joyful Noise Music Center Academy director

• Dr. Gary McRoberts, Emeritus Professor of Music at Fullerton College, Calif.

• Bryan Taylor, international recording and touring artist

• Taylor Ackley and Alison Rowe, Doctor of Musical Arts candidates at Stony Brook University, N.Y.

• Mike Klinger, founder and president of Synthesis MIDI Workshop, and,

• Bob Woll, adjunct faculty at Northwest University, Kirkland.

Full tuition is $299; several scholarships are available.

Lunch and dinner are available for a fee. Meals are hosted by Laurie Campen, food service director for the Sequim School District.

Housing with Dungeness Community Church families also is available.
