Other nonprofits should take a lesson from the Sequim-Dungeness Hospital Guild. Created in 1970 by 10 women "tired of a life of leisure," the guild has raised more than $1.6 million to date.

The organization held its annual luncheon on May 21, filling the SunLand Golf and Country Club. The event included a silent auction and fashion show, both featuring items from the guild’s thrift shop, which generates the majority of the guild’s funds.

During the luncheon, the guild announced $23,620 worth of medical equipment will be donated to Olympic Medical Center, including two 24-hour heart rate monitors, a bariatric table and two infusion chairs.

"I want to thank you as a community member because you make this a better place," Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis said. "You make a tremendous difference."

The guild also announced this year’s scholarship recipients. Six college-level medical students received $3,800 each. The students are Katie Mc-

Knight, Rondale West, Hannah Yamamoto, Timothy Dosey, Lesley Everett and David Lewis.

The guild also donated $2,200 to Peninsula College’s nursing program.
