Agnew man arrested for allegedly burglarizing Agnew Grocery

Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in the Agnew Grocery burglary.

Detective Sgt. Eric Munger said a Sequim Police officer received information that 34-year-old Andrew Luquette of Agnew was involved with the July 24 burglary of Agnew Grocery and Feed, 2863 Old Olympic Highway in Port Angeles.

A suspect entered the store by cutting a hole through its floor with a saw to steal about 20 packs of cigarettes, 20 lighters and the store’s security system.

Munger said the police officer was told Luquette had property stolen from the Agnew Grocery burglary.

Detectives with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office and the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team acquired a search warrant for Luquette’s residence and on July 28 they arrested him and his associate Brandon Hall on unrelated outstanding arrest warrants.

Inside Luquette’s home, detectives found Agnew Grocery’s security system, brand new lighters and empty cigarette packages consistent with the brands stolen, a small amount of heroin and a shotgun, Munger reported.

Luquette, who has a felony conviction, is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

He will face charges from Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second degree burglary, third degree theft, malicious mischief in the third degree, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of heroin.

Luquette is in Clallam County Jail awaiting sentencing.

Chief Criminal Deputy Brian King said there is no direct evidence at this time that connects Luquette to the July 19 burglary at Sunny Farms Country Store, 261461 U.S. Highway 101, in Carlsborg, where suspects fit through a 16-inch by 20-inch hole in the back of the store they made.

Surveillance photos captured brief glimpses of the burglars who were carrying a sledgehammer, pry bar and a tan backpack.

Nothing was stolen because deputies said they believe an alarm was sounded which may have scared them off.
