The Co-op Farm and Garden, 216 East Washington St., announced last week the appointment of Ken Garling as the store’s new general manager.

Garling succeeds Mike Youngquist, who was the Co-op’s general manager the past nine-and-a-half years before announcing his retirement.

The Co-op Farm and Garden Board of Directors chose Garling, a 26-year Co-op employee. He started his career in the freight/receiving department and has held positions as warehouse manager, inventory controller and most recently system analyst.

Garling and his wife Jule have three children and live in Sequim. He enjoys soccer, hiking, hunting, fishing and mountain biking. He said he is looking forward to “working with our great staff, our loyal patrons, and continuing our support of community events.”

Youngquist, who worked for the Co-op for 27 years, said he is most proud of positioning The Co-op so it was able to retire patronage equity from the years 1959-1983, as well as paying off all Clallam Cooperative debt.
