Peninsula Youth, a group of local churches and youth pastors are bringing back Sequinter Jam for its second year with another night of music, prizes and entertainment for middle school and high school students.
Youth from grades 6-12 are invited to attend this year’s event with the doors opening at 6:42 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Sequim Boys and Girls Club and the event will run from 7-11 p.m.
This year’s event will feature entertainers such as rapper and spoken work poet Braille from Beautiful Eulogy, The Exchange, Big Oak and the headliner for the event is Seattle-based group Kings Kaleidoscope. The night will end with a dance party from Beat Farm DJ Sean Taylor.
David Piper, a youth pastor from Dungeness Community Church involved in coordinating Sequinter Jam said this year has bigger performers and he is looking forward to another fun event.
“This year is a big step up from last year,” Piper said. “I’m really excited for our lineup.”
On top of a musical lineup, there also will be a grand prize giveaway of one all expense paid snowboard trip to Mt. Baker from March 9-11 worth a $400 value.
Piper said this is one of the bigger events where churches across the Peninsula work together to put on a fun event for youth in the area. The group identity for all the churches coming together is being called “Peninsula Youth.”
“We’re just celebrating the other churches and it’s really cool,” Piper said.
Last year, about 200 youth attended Sequinter Jam and Piper said this year they are anticipating around 300-500 youth to attend the event.
There are seven churches that individually raised money to pay for this event and the churches together came up with a total of $7,000 for this year’s event. The churches that raised funds include: Eastern Hills Community Church, Fairview Bible Church, King’s Way Foursqaure Church, Sequim Valley Foursquare Church, Sequim Bible Church, Sequim Community Church and Dungeness Community Church.
Piper said youth from Neah Bay to Port Townsend are invited to attend this year’s event and a group from Bellingham also may be joining.
The event costs $5 at the door to attend with the proceeds going towards funds to pay for next year’s event. The doors will open at 6:42 p.m. at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club, 400 W. Fir St, Sequim, and the event will run from 7-11 p.m.
