For its final main stage production of the 2018 season, the Port Angeles Community Players presents “Lend Me a Tenor” a modern comedy and classic farce directed by Mark and Danielle Lorentzen.
The play runs from April 27-May 13 and features Sequim locals Alison Cobb and Jennifer Saul, as well as several actors seen on the Olympic Theater Arts stage such as Ron Graham, Angela Poynter and Randy Powell.
The cast also includes Kathleen Balducci, Richard Stephens and Josh McLean.
Written by Ken Ludwig and set in September 1934, the play tells the story of Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, welcoming the world famous Tito Morelli, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello.
The star arrives late and through a series of mishaps is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. However, the show must go on, and it does.
“True to Ludwig’s style, this play will have you laughing hysterically at the fast paced dialogue and split second timing,” co-director Mark Lorentzen said.
This comical play also includes several mixed up identities, miss-crossed lovers — some of whom are played by real-life couple.
The play premiered in 1986 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards and won two for Best Director and Best Actor. It was later revived on Broadway in 2010 with three more Tony nominations and won the Tony for Best Revival. It also won the Olivier Award for Outstanding Comedy of the year.
