Sequim’s Audrey Cole recently released her second book in the Emerald City Thriller series, “Inspired by Murder.”
Released on Aug. 14, Cole says she is excited for her readers to get their hands on this second crime thriller. Her first book in the series, “The Recipient” released on June 13, 2017.
Cole is a 2004 Sequim High School grad and was living in Australia for the last five years. Other than her writing career she, she also is a registered nurse and moved back to Washington earlier this year with her husband and two children.
Compared to her first book, Cole said her second book is more of a psychological thriller with notes of dark humor portrayed through Australian/American psychiatrist Dr. Eric Leroy who hates his day job and aspires to be a bestselling author. In order for him to be a successful author, he believes he must commit the perfect murder for inspiration.
“I didn’t intend to set out writing it that way,” Cole said. “Dr. Leroy, is a funny, yet ghastly character.”
While this book can be read as a stand alone, Cole said, one of the pivotal characters from her first book, Detective Blake Stephenson, also is a featured character in this new book who grows suspicious of Dr. Leroy and sets out to investigate him.
Cole said much of her inspiration for this book came from real-life stories of serial killers, such as Robert Durst from the HBO documentary “The Jinx” and Ted Bundy.
“What gets me about some of these guys (serial killers) is their unremorsefulness,” she said.
Cole said the book is set in Seattle and some parts are set in Australia where she was living while writing the book. She said she also wrote an alternative ending to the book, which readers can access for free by signing up for her mailing list on her website.
While she just released the second book, Cole says she has not yet started writing a third one but already has ideas.
