Fastpitch: Lady Wolves go 2-2 in first week

The Wolves defeated Coupeville 12-1 in a league game at home on March 18 and came from behind to wallop Chimacum (non-league) 14-4 on March 20.

The Wolves defeated Coupeville 12-1 in a league game at home on March 18 and came from behind to wallop Chimacum (non-league) 14-4 on March 20.

Versus the Coupeville Wolves, Kaylee Gumm and Allysen Montelius led Sequim with three hits each and Gumm had 3 RBIs and Mary Lu Clift had 2 RBIs. Olivia Kirsch and McKenzie Bentz both had three strikeouts pitching.

Sequim had a brief scare in the third inning when the Chimacum Cowboys capitalized on throwing errors and deep hits to take a 4-0 lead.

But the Wolves rallied with 14 unanswered runs led by Kirsch’s two hits and 4 RBIs and Tia Bourm’s 2 RBIs. McKenzie Bentz earned the win in six innings throwing eight strikeouts and hitting in three runs of her own.

In the first of two non-league games on March 21, the Wolves were blanked by Anacortes Sea-hawks’ pitcher Brooke Writer who threw a no-hitter against the Wolves. She also led the Seahawks going 2-3 with 3 RBIs.

The Sehome Mariners came out swinging in the second game and never trailed in a 10-6 win later in the day. The Mariners’ Carissa McDowell hit 4-4 with three RBI to lead Sehome while Bentz took the pitching loss but she and Kirsch two hits each.

This week, the Wolves host Klahowya on March 25 and travel to Black Hills on March 26 and host Bremerton on March 27. They’ll be playing during spring break too traveling to North Kitsap on March 31 and hosting Olympic on April 2. An away game in White River on March 23 was rescheduled to April 24.
