The future is now … in sneakers and jerseys.
Players, referees and coaches of the Sequim Youth Basketball Program are gearing up for the league’s fifth year. The program is open to boys and girls in grades one-six. Players receive a team shirt, weekly practice sessions (depending on gym availability) and six games.
As in past years, program officials do evaluations and establish team rosters in mid-December and host games following the holiday break to provide an even flow to the season.
Games are on Saturdays starting at 9 a.m. and continuing throughout the day beginning Jan. 10. The plan is to have each team play at least six and wrap up the season by the end of February.
Players wishing to register need to complete a registration form and bring it to one of the two Saturday registration/evaluation sessions.
Players should plan to attend one of two registration/evaluation sessions (see box). Those who cannot attend the Dec. 6 session but would like to register prior to the Dec. 13 session should mail their registration forms and fee by Dec. 8.
At the registration sessions, program officials conduct a brief evaluation of each player to determine skill levels in an effort to divide teams as evenly as possible. The sessions are generally no longer than 20-30 minutes and players may come at any time during the two-hour sessions.
