With a pared-down roster thanks to spring break, Sequim’s track squads raced, threw and leaped to middle-of-the-pack finishes at the Lil’ Norway Invitational in Poulsbo on April 2.
Led by senior distance runner Audrey Shingleton, Sequim High’s girls notched 65 points to place fifth in the 13-team invite, behind North Kitsap (129), Olympic (101), Central Kitsap (93) and Bremerton (81).
Shingleton took top honors in the 80-meter race (2:28), third in the 1,600 meters (a personal best 5:36) and teamed up with Emma Beeson, Mercedes Woods and Elizabeth Sweet to win the 4×400 relay (4:36).
Sweet took third in the pole vault while Alysha Graham was fourth in the discus, Elizabeth Rosales took fourth in the 3,200 meters and Mattie Clark was fourth in the 100 hurdles. Graham’s 91-foot, 11-inch discus throw was a personal best.
Sequim’s boys placed seventh in the team standings with 45.5 points, well behind meet champ Central Kitsap (143) and runner-up North Kitsap (132.5).
SHS senior Oscar Herrera was a dual event winner, taking top times in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles events to win both handily.
Herrera joined Kane Stoddard, Curtis Gorr and Logan Habner to take third in the 4×400 relay (3:36).
Chris Whitaker placed third in the discus with a personal best 131 feet, 6 inches.
Michael Larson was fourth in the high jump (5-2) and freshman Connor Martin was fifth in the pole vault with a personal best 8-foot mark.
The Wolves are back in action April 14 in Port Townsend, taking on Coupeville, Port Angeles and the host Redhawks in an Olympic League meet.
Select Sequim athletes compete at the Tacoma Invite on April 16.
