Locals finish strong at tae kwon do competition

The martial art may have developed in Korea, but these athletes seem to have it down pretty well.

Athletes from Sequim-based Bodystrong TaeKwon-Do took home 11 gold medals, four silver medals and 11 bronze medals from a tae kwon do competition held in La Center on Oct. 25.

Most Bodystrong competitors are residents of Sequim, with two from Port Angeles.

Shayna Butcher took home three gold medals while John Golbeck (two golds, one silver, one bronze) and Jacob Mora (two gold, one bronze) also earned two top finishes.

Michelle Bequette – one gold, two bronze; Krystin Cargo – one bronze; Alex Janisse – one gold, two bronze; Randy Johnston – one gold, one silver, two bronze; Thomas Miano – two silver; Aaron Russell – one gold, one bronze; James Stewart – one bronze also represented Bodystrong.

The La Center competition featured more than 100 competitors ages 3-60.
