Pet adoptions in Sequim
The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society shelter is offering off-site adoption of healthy puppies, kittens, dogs and cats from 10 a.m.-
2 p.m. on Saturdays at Petco, 1205 W. Washington St. Potential new owners fill out an adoption agreement and pay a fee.

Media roundtable
Olympic Peninsula publishers and media managers join Frank Garred, a government open-access expert, in a roundtable discussion — “Publish or Perish: The State of the Media on the Olympic Peninsula” — at 1:45 p.m. today, May 11, in the Little Theatre at Peninsula College.
Scheduled speakers include Brown Maloney, publisher of the Sequim Gazette and Forks Forum; Rex Wilson, of the Peninsula Daily News; Todd Ortloff, program manager of KONP Radio; and Fred Obee, editor of the Port Townsend Leader.
They will be joined by moderator Rich Riski, director of Peninsula College’s journalism program. The event is free.
ONP among ‘The Forgotten Rainforests’
Friends of Olympic National Park co-host a free talk on “The Forgotten Rainforests” (such as those in ONP) by scientist and conservationist Dominick DellaSala at 7 p.m, today, May 11, in the Little Theater on the Peninsula College campus.
The talk is introduced with a reading by Port Angeles poet Alice Derry. A reception and book signing follow.
Cemetery district meeting
For May only, the Gardiner Community Cemetery commissioners meet on the second Thursday of the month. The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road, Gardiner. Call 360-797-7515.
Event focuses on biomass impacts
An informational wine-and-cheese fundraiser on the health impacts of biomass incinerators is planned from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at a private venue. Call 582-7181 for reservation and location details.
Admission is by donation; funds go to support the legal challenges to the Nippon Paper Industries’ proposed biomass incinerator in Port Angeles.
Parade day salmon feast

Artists move forward
“Moving Forward: Resources for Artists” is the subject of a free workshop from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 16, in the media room at The Lodge at Sherwood Village, 660 W. Evergreen Farm Way, Sequim.
Port Townsend artist Gloria Lamson discusses presentation of work, funding and exhibition possibilities for Washington state artists and health care, insurance, emergency assistance and legal services available to
artists.
The workshop is part of Sequim Humanities and Arts Alliance’s Cultural Connections monthly meetings.
ONP talk on Elwha restoration
Dean Butterworth of the Olympic National Park and North Coast and Cascades Science Learning Network will present “Elwha River Restoration — Natural Wonders Never Cease” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
This program covers the geography of the Elwha River and the importance of its salmon runs, the history of the dams and the anticipated changes once the dams are removed.
‘City Update’ at league meeting
The Clallam County League of Women Voters holds its annual meeting from 12:45-2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., Sequim. The city managers of Sequim and Port Angeles will give a “City Update.”
Help for chronic conditions
A free workshop, “Living Well With Chronic Conditions,” meets from 1-3 p.m. each Wednesday for six consecutive weeks beginning Wednesday, May 18, at the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church, 925 N. Sequim Ave, Sequim.

North Olympic Peninsula Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers hosts “Fishing for Summer King Salmon” at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 Blake Ave., Sequim.

Contract bids requested
A site visit is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday, May 20, for potential bidders on a 10-year concession contract at Log Cabin Resort within Olympic National Park.
The contract includes operation of overnight accommodations, food and beverage, retail and related services.
The current concession contract between the National Park Service and Log Cabin Resort, Inc. expires Dec. 31, 2011.
