Sunny skies should help usher in the second weekend in a row for the Sequim Irrigation Festival.
Following Crazy Callen Weekend, more favorites return for the Grand Finale Weekend May 9-12 including the Grand Parade, Logging Show and Carnival.
“Typically when it’s nice out, we have a better turnout,” festival Executive Director Deon Kapetan said.
Find a full festival schedule at www. irrigationfestival.com, or in the festival’s official guide found around town.
This year marks the 124th Irrigation Festival with “The Wizard of Oz” theme, “There’s No Place like Home.” It remains Washington’s longest continuous festival.
Walking Tour
Festivities begin Thursday, May 9, with the Sequim Museum & Arts’ downtown Historic Walking Tour at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. if there’s an overflow from the morning tour at 175 W. Cedar St.
Carnival
Later that night, Davis Shows Northwest opens its Carnival from 5-9 p.m. on the Sequim High School softball fields.
Wristbands for unlimited rides are available at a discount of $22 through Thursday afternoon at multiple Sequim retailers, including Sound Community Bank, Key Bank, Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce and Dungeness Kids Co. At the carnival, wristbands cost $27 each.
After opening Thursday, the carnival opens 5-11 p.m. Friday, May 10; noon-11 p.m. Saturday, May 11; and noon-5 p.m. Sunday, May 12, with moms riding free (celebrating Mother’s Day).
Logging Show, Strongman
This year marks the 31st-annual Logging Show, with events running all day Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, with food, vendors and an early gas engine display setup nearby on the field off Blake Avenue south of Carrie Blake Community Park.
On Friday, truck and tractor pulls go from noon-6 p.m. with a beer garden open 5-11 p.m. and chainsaw carving going noon-7 p.m.

Kapetan encourages pet owners to check with their veterinarians to discuss options if their pets are sensitive to loud noises. Kapetan also encourages community members sensitive to loud noises to consider options to lessen the noise for that span, too.
Golf Tournament
In conjunction with the festival, The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula hosts its annual Golf Tournament at the Cedars at Dungeness. The four-person scramble begins at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, with check-in beginning at 11 a.m. Player packages begin at $100 with promotions available from Janet Gray at 360-683-8095 or jgray@bgc-op.org or go online to www.bgc-op.org under the “events” tab.

For both events, racers will start at JCPenney and travel down Washington Street with runners turning at the Shipley Center for the 5K and walkers/runners turning at the intersection of Washington Street and Third Avenue for the 1K. Many people stake out spots the night before with duct tape and lawn chairs or early in the morning to catch the Fun Run, Car Cruzz and parade. Water will be available for parade participants at the start and end of the parade.
