Arizona is just a few wins away.
Sequim Little League’s softball juniors District 2 champions are one of eight teams battling this week not only for a Washington state crown but the chance to play in Tucson, Ariz., this summer.
The team was scheduled to play July 22 against the District 6 entry from Glenwood Little League of Vancouver, Wash.
A win pits Sequim against the winner of Evergreen Little League versus Bonney Lake/Sumner on July 23; a loss forces Sequim into a loser-out game against the Evergreen/Bonney Lake loser earlier that day.
Manager Shelley Haupt said Sequim’s keys to getting through the tournament are staying healthy, hitting as they did at districts and being aggressive.
With Demiree Briones and Columbia Haupt on the mound, pitching is still Sequim’s strength. But the offense was just as impressive at districts, outscoring opponents 53-4 in three lopsided games.
