The boys of summer are done, but not without a fight.

The Wilder Seniors baseball squad put a scare into several teams at the Pacific Northwest Senior Babe Ruth 16-18U regional tournament in Vancouver, Wash., last weekend.

Wilder won their first three games before dropping two in a row, including a 12-3 semifinal decision to the Crater Lake Cardinals of Southern Oregon; Crater Lake went on to knock off Lakeside Recovery for a berth in the Babe Ruth World Series.

Wilder went 1-3 at the state Babe Ruth tourney in Port Angeles earlier this month and looked to be out of the postseason, but a team representing Montana found it couldn’t make the regional tourney, giving Wilder a second postseason life.

In Vancouver, Wilder topped Wyoming 10-0 on July 21, Granite Construction (Southern Washington) 12-2 on July 22 and Spirit Lake Buzz (Idaho) 11-1 on July 23 before falling to Alberta’s Calgary Blues, 5-3, on July 25.

Wilder is a team of top prep stars from Sequim, Port Angeles and Port Townsend.
