Pilot Josh Brown, a Port Angeles High School graduate, stands by the MH-47G Chinook, a U.S. Army twin-engine, tandem rotor helicopter at the Unity of Effort event in Sequim on Aug. 10. Hosted by Security Services Northwest, the annual event featured interactive displays from law enforcement, fire districts, medical professionals, the military and other emergency responders, as well as food vendors, music, youth activities and games, and tours of a medical and military helicopter. Brown said the questions most asked about the Chinook had to do with how many people can fit inside, how much gas can it hold and what is the part that sticks out front (it’s a fuel probe for in-flight refueling). Brown, whose wife Leah is a Sequim High graduate and former Irrigation Festival queen, is part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord south of Tacoma.
