A new display in the community room at the KSQM radio station is highlightling the early years of The Beatles, with items ranging from vinyl singles to fan magazines to tie pins to rare cloth dolls of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
Collection owner George Dooley said that the memoribilia is just the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
“I’ll be rotating what’s in there every couple of months to help show the evolution of The Beatles,” he said.
“I grew up listening to my mom’s vinyls of Hank Williams and Patsy Cline and Fats Domino. When I heard The Beatles, I knew it was going to change music and started collecting what I could.”
Dooley said that he’s been collecting Beatles memorabilia for decades, including getting his hands on some very hard-to-find items.
“The four dolls (of John, Paul, George and Ringo) in the case were kinda hard to get, especially all four of them in good shape,” he said.
Dooley is particularly proud of having those, as well as other items like the fan magazines and tie pins that can be difficult to find these days.
He said that sharing the collection and it’s history is important to him, and he wants to help people be able to see how a group as impactful to the evolution of music changed over the years themselves.
Dooley hosts “Doctor Dee’s Roots of Rock” on KSQM on Friday nights at 8:30 p.m. and also serves as the president for the Sequim Community Broadcasting board. He has other memorabilia on display at the station as well, and encourages anyone who wants to see it all first-hand to do so.
