Sequim Open Aire Market

What's new at the market

Saturdays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Cedar Street between Sequim and Second avenues Wednesdays 2-6 p.m. corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street

We are celebrating International Dance Day on July 31, with the Olympic Mountain Cloggers and line dancers. There will be dancing in the street from 9:30-10:30 a.m. This will be a good time!

Denny Secord and the Northwest Boys will be back for more old-time ballads. You remember them from the Fourth of July weekend when they had the crowd up and waltzing. Wear your dancing shoes this Saturday.

What’s new this week at the market?

Nash’s Organic Produce carrots are back in full swing. These carrots are a special variety created by Nash Huber, selected for their flavor and adaptation to the region. Along with your carrots, you can pick up some freshly picked cucumbers, basil, cilantro, beets, chard and more.

I recommend making a Northwest salsa by shredding carrots and adding your favorite salsa mix of onion, garlic, cilantro and hot pepper, all diced finely and tossed with a little oil, vinegar, lime juice and salt. Use it like a tomato salsa on just about anything. Then when the tomatoes come on, you have your recipe all refined.

Each year, approximately 780,000 children in the U.S. are caught up in the court and child welfare maze because they are unable to live safely at home.

CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. They stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home.

To learn more about this important organization, come speak with a CASA volunteer this Saturday in one of the Suzanne Arnold community booths.

Welfare for Animals Guild of Sequim will be hosting the other community booth. This organization provides foster homes for dogs while searching for a loving permanent home.

See you at the market!
