Keri Poffel, MPT, GCS, of Port Angeles, has been awarded the status of board certified physical therapy geriatric clinical specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Poffel is one of 26 physical therapists in the state of Washington and is one of two practicing on the Olympic Peninsula. Poffel has worked since 2003 as a physical therapist at Avamere Olympic Rehabilitation of Sequim.

Carole V. Hauskins, president of Pied Piper Publishing, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who’s Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of labor and employment law. Hauskins received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1971. She started her career as an executive and administrator at Seattle City Light. With a move to Sequim, Hauskins transitioned her law focus to elder law, wills, estate and probate law, as well as special needs assessments in order to serve the elderly who require legal assistance. She has plans to start her own law practice in Sequim.

Cedar Creek Restaurant is hosting a Christmas "Kitty" cocktail party with appetizers and specialty martinis and cocktails from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5. OlyCAP’s capital campaign received an anonymous donation of $100,000, according to Tim Hockett, OlyCAP’s executive director. OlyCAP’s capital campaign reached a significant milestone earlier this year when it received a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant for $200,000. Prior to the recent donation, OlyCAP had raised about $45,000 in donations and pledges with about $25,000 of that eligible for matching funds. OlyCAP is the peninsula’s largest nonprofit community services agency, integrating programs that assist low-income individuals and families.

Bill Bailey of Sequim was awarded an Agency Hands in the Community Award for his commitment to volunteering in the local community. With this award comes a $500 grant from The Allstate Foundation to the nonprofit organization at which he volunteers. Bailey volunteers with the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic where he helps fundraise, serves as a volunteer at the clinic and is involved in the group’s annual walkathon.

Olympic Cellars has bottled a limited release of Longhouse Private Label Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon under a new agreement with Blyn’s Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe. Named in honor of the cedar plank structures that sheltered tribal ancestors in winters past, the wine is available at the tribe’s Longhouse Market and Deli in Blyn.
