The monthly event is from 3-5 p.m. each fourth Wednesday every other month at First Federal, 333 N. Sequim Ave., Sequim. The next is July 22. Other dates this year are Sept. 23 and Nov. 18.

County commission talks marijuana zoning
The Clallam County Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. The agenda includes zoning regulations pertaining to marijuana producers, processors and retailers, and a review of a Draft Clallam County Shoreline Master Program and public comments received. EDC board to meet
The Clallam County Economic Development Corporation announces that the Clallam County Opportunity Fund Advisory Board will hold a board meeting from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Thursday, July 16, at the Lincoln Center, 905 W. Ninth St., Port Angeles, in Room 208.
The meeting is being convened to hear a presentation from the City of Port Angeles, requesting funding from the Opportunity Program Fund for the Waterfront Transportation Improvement Plan Phase 2. oners regarding the funding request.

Sanctuary Advisory Council holds Friday seminar
NOAA’s Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary host a meeting of the Sanctuary Advisory Council from 9:50 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, July 17, in Room 205 in The Landing Mall, 115 E. Railroad Ave., Port Angeles.
During the morning session Dr. Julia Parrish presents about the 2014-2015 Cassin’s auklet mortality event, followed by a presentation by Department of Ecology on sanctuary-related aspects to the Washington Marine and Rail Oil Transportation Study. In the afternoon there is a summary of ecosystem indicators work by Dr. Chris Harvey of NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center, an overview of Olympic Culinary Loop and an update on progress to expand marine debris cleanup in the Pacific Basin region. The meeting is open to the public, with a public comment periods at noon and 2:40 p.m.
Rock walk on tap
Geologist Dave Parks with Washington Department of Natural Resources will lead “Rock Walk” to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge. Walks are set for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., Saturday, July 18 at the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge, Voice of America Road. Parks will discuss the geologic history and coastal evolution of Dungeness Spit, examine the stratigraphy of the bluffs and share recent research on rates of coastal bluff erosion. Public meeting set for Fir Street improvements
The City of Sequim is holding a meeting to gather public input on future West Fir Street improvements. The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday, July 23, Civic Center, 152 West Cedar St.
The street improvement area is West Fir Street between North Sequim Avenue and North 5th Avenue. This is a preliminary public input meeting. No timeframe has been established for the work to begin.

Thrift shop open Saturday
The Sequim Dungeness Hospital Guild’s Thrift Shop, 204 W. Bell St., in Sequim, will be open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 18. Featured will be summer fashions for the entire family, furniture item, kitchenware, fine jewelry and fashion accessories, books, puzzles and more. Sequim Soroptimists selling See’s Candy for fundraiser
The Soroptimist International of Sequim will be at Heather Creek, 122 W. Washington St., Sequim, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday-Saturday, July 17-18, to sell See’s Candy as an ongoing fundraiser. When you purchase a box of See’s Candy, you help support scholarship funding for high school seniors, as well as women returning to school or continuing their education, providing personal items for victims of domestic violence, funding and support to community agencies.

EAA hosts meeting
The July meeting of Experimental Aircraft Association 430 is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17, in Hangar 10 at the Sequim Valley Airport, 468 Dorothy Hunt Lane. All interested aviators are invited. The meeting presenter is Judy Stipe with “History of 12 Sequim Airstrips.”
Port commissioners set contract for KPly cleanup
The Board of Commissioners for the Port of Port Angeles on July 13 unanimously agreed to a $3.575 million contract with Engineering Remediation Resources Group, Inc., to clean up the former KPly mill site. The project includes excavating and hauling to a licensed landfill soil contaminated soil and replace it clean fill. ERRG will begin work in early August and is expected to have the project substantially complete by mid-November 2015, Port officials said this week.
The PenPly mill operation ceased in December of 2011 and the structures were later demolished between the fall of 2012 and the spring of 2013.
Lutherans collecting for garage sale goodies
The Men’s OutReach Endeavor (MORE) of the Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church announces its annual garage sale event beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at 925 N. Sequim Ave.
Over the past years MORE has distributed over $25,000 to causes from this event. This year the major giving will be to the Sequim Community Help Center, the DreamCenter and its Vine Street Cottage Project, temporary housing for homeless teenagers, and the OMC Foundation Patient Navigator Fund.
Drop off your “gems” the week of July 20 (not later than Friday). Give the church office a call at 681-0946 for pick-ups and additional information. No major appliances or floor model TVs are accepted.
HRKC dog shows, trials scheduled for summer
The Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club hosts All-Breed Dog Shows, Rally and Obedience Trials July 24-26 at the Sequim High School sports stadium off of Fir Street. Entries for the event are closed.
The club also hosts agility trials, Aug. 7-9, on SHS’s soccer fields. Entries for the trials close at 6 p.m. Monday, July 20. See www.hrkc.org for more information.
