Luke Kisena has a plot to paint the town of Sequim. A quintet of Sequim students did a little painting of the town on their own with their feature of Kisena’s work in "Paint the Town."
The feature film took the top award at the eighth Student Film Festival, put on by the Sequim Education Foundation, on April 19.
For their excellence in artistry, filmmakers Daniel Call, Josh Finch, Kyle Lee Gordeuk, Luke Silliman and Stephen Silliman earn a scholarships of about $700.
In 2012, Kisena — activities coordinator at the Sequim Boys & Girls Club — created a program called “Paint the Town” to excite teens to volunteer while exploring their creative side by painting murals for businesses and nonprofit organizations. The teens’ murals now reside on several walls across town and at the club.
Second place went to "T3 News Report" by SHS seniors Torrie McIntyre and Tristan Tosland and sophomore Tenille Tosland. Their film contrasts the views of how Sequim youths view the elderly and how Sequim’s elderly view local youths.
Third place went to "The Quest," by sixth-grader Damon Little, fifth-grader Kaylee Dunlap and first-grader Garrett Little.
Other SEF Student Film Festival winners included:
• The Audience People Choice Award (known as the Elkie) — "Bad Breath and Beyond" by Brendon Hudson and Blake Wiker
• Environmental Award sponsored by Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society — "Biomimicry" (by Ian Jones and Derek Chamblin) and "Murcielago" (by Angela Bentley)
• Best Actor — Hudson for his role in "Bad Breath and Beyond"
• Best Actress — Dunlap for her role in "The Quest"
• Best Sound – "Biomimicry."
