Glasser, Julmist rep Wolves in All-League first team

Sequim well represented in Olympic League winter season honors

Sequim High School was well represented on the Olympic League All-League lists for the 2019-2020 winter sports season, with two girls basketball players named to the first-team all-Olympic League squad, and two Wolves making the second all-league team of their respective sports.

Wolves post players Hope Glasser and Jayla Julmist were both named to the first team of the all-league girls basketball team. Glasser was a key leader on an SHS team that finished second in the Olympic League this season with a 10-2 league record and 17-7 overall. The senior scored 10.8 points per game this season and finishing second in the team only behind Julmist in rebounds.

Julmist was a threat to earn a double-double in almost every game she played this season, with nine in 20 games. She scored 10.9 points per game, and averaged nearly two steals and blocks per game as well. She was also selected for Sequim’s league sportsmanship honor for the 2019-2020 season.

Kalli Wiker joined her teammates with all-league honors, named to the second team. Wiker led the Wolves in scoring with 11.4 points per game and twice tied Art Green’s long-standing overall school record for 3-pointers in a single game with eight.

North Kitsap Vikings senior guard Noey Barreith was named the Olympic League MVP after tallying 15.5 points and six rebounds per game.

On the boys’s side, Sequim junior guard Erik Christiansen was named to the all-league second team. Christiansen led the Wolves in scoring with 16.7 points per game, shooting 40.6 percent from the field. He added 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Christiansen was also selected for the Wolves’ sportsmanship award.

North Kitsap senior point guard Kobe McMillian won the boys’ league MVP honors after scoring 17 points per game and serving as a terror to Olympic League defenses all season long.

Other sports

The Wolves were shut out of the All-League teams for wrestling this winter, with no representatives at any weight class. That follows a season where the Wolves just sent one wrestler, junior Isaiah Cowan, to state in a season that school athletic director Dave Ditlefsen referred to as a “rebuilding effort” during a presentation at the March 2 school board meeting.

Sequim’s Sam Fitzgerald and Alexi Rampp-Taft were selected for Sequim’s sportsmanship award.

Wolves sophomore Madison McKeown was named to the All-Olympic League girls bowling team; her 148-pin average this season was good enough to be the fifth-highest individual average in the Olympic League last season. She averaged 141.8 pins per game at the state championship tournament in Tacoma, good for 36th place.

Gabriella Mattern-Hall was given the sportsmanship award for Sequim.
