The Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market (SFAM) opens this weekend! This Saturday, May 16, marks the opening day for a highly modified open-air market.
The market will operate from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. and will be found at its usual location, Sequim City Hall Plaza on West Cedar Street.
Like grocery stores, farmers markets are included in Gov. Jay Inslee’s list of “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers.”
SFAM provides a safe, open-air alternative to crowded grocery stores. With strict adherence to state health guidelines, the modified open-air market provides ample space for physical distancing, low-contact purchasing options and the opportunity to support our community’s small businesses.
On Saturday, customers will find a consolidated and diverse gathering of vendors committed to bringing high quality, safe, local products.
Market guests will have the chance to purchase high quality, nourishing foods with bacon, sausage, ribs, chops and ground beef from Wild Edge Farm; micro-greens from Back to Dirt Farm and seasonal produce from various producers throughout the season; arugula, salad mix and rhubarb from River Run Farm; green onion powder from Olympic Onion Farm; honey from Sequim Bee Farm; tea and plant starts from Goodness Tea; baked goods to-go from Blue Mountain Baking Company; as well as chicken and duck eggs from Sativa Valley Essentials.
New SFAM vendor Ulivo Pizzeria will be serving up authentic Italian pizza, hot and packaged to-go for your home enjoyment.
Shoppers can expect an abundance of soap, hand sanitizer and other personal hygiene offerings from Smoothie Essentials and Let’s Do Lavender. Many will be excited to learn of Sativa Valley Essentials’ return to the market with their well-known CBD tinctures.
Customers are encouraged to like SFAM on Facebook to stay up to date with the particular offerings of participating vendors on a weekly basis.
No longer ‘business as usual’
In its regular season, SFAM hosts a display of over 40 local vendors, a live music series and a full calendar of events. However, as long as businesses are under stay-at-home/essentials-only COVID-19 restrictions, the market will not be “business as usual.”
Modified operations will include vendors whose businesses are deemed “essential” by the state. But what exactly will that look like?
On Saturday, SFAM kindly asks customers to:
• Send only one person per household to the market, when possible
• Leave pets at home
• Wash or sanitize hands before entering the market
• Wear a cloth face covering to reduce the release of infectious particles into the air
• Maintain a physical distance of 6 feet with other shoppers
• Avoid touching any products, pre-purchase and allow vendors to select and bag products once purchased
• Avoid consumption of food on market premises
• Bag one’s own items when using reusable bags; wash reusable bags prior to shopping
• Assist neighbors unable to attend the market in making purchases and maintain appropriate social distance upon delivery
• Avoid the market when demonstrating any of the following symptoms: fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher), cough, shortness of breath, sore throat or muscle aches
As restrictions are lifted, SFAM will adjust its operating procedures each Saturday according to the most current health-and-safety requirements.
