Student works featured

A reception will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, Feb.11, for a group of 20 students from the Olympic Christian School, grades K-8, who will be the February featured artists at the Waterfront Art Gallery, 120 W. First St., Port Angeles. This is the first time the gallery has featured artists outside its membership.

Some of the students’ work will be for sale and they will set their own prices. All sales will be handled through the gallery.

Stories of the wild life

“Living with the Wildlife,” a storytelling event for general audiences, will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., Port Angeles.

Storyteller Alice Susong will share tales of her life with National Park ranger Dunbar Susong and his experiences with bears, moose, elk, other wildlife and tourists.

Doll show promised

Just Dolls of Washington doll club’s 2011 Promise of Spring doll show will be from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles. Antique and modern dolls, bears, doll furniture and accessories, and soup and sandwiches will be sold.

Door prizes and a grand prize will be awarded. Entry fee is $2; grand prize tickets are $1 each or a can of food for the food bank. Entry proceeds will go to the Home Fund.

Using light in art

To photographers and artists, light is everything and can make photographs or paintings exceptional. A new Peninsula College community class, “Qualities of Light,” can help you learn how to use light effectively in your work. The instructor, Randall Tomaras, promises that you will never look at light in quite the same way as he shows how to recognize and control the qualities of light and how they aid in the perception of shape, form, tone, depth, shadows, highlights and ratio.
