With COVID-19 leading club members of the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt Club to cancel their annual show during Sequim Lavender Weekend, event organizers opted to still hold a drawing for their annual raffle quilt.
A small group gathered in masks and socially distanced outside the Sequim Masonic Lodge on July 19 with Sue Nylander, chairman for the show, drawing Sequim’s Jess Ruby’s name from a few hundred tickets.
The quilt was made by Brianne Moores, last year’s show chairman, to benefit the club’s Community Quilt program.
Raffle ticket sales were down, with COVID-19 concerns reducing the number of promotional events and forcing the club to cancel weekly meetings at the lodge.
Nylander said next year’s quilt is being readied to feature flowers and baskets, but details on their 2021 show are to be determined.
The annual show typically features hundreds of quilts, a featured quilter, demonstrations, vendors and a quilt shop at Sequim Middle School.
