Libraries encourage writer to ‘ReThink Journals’

As part of the Summer Reading Program, the North Olympic Library System (NOLS) is presenting “ReThink Journals for All Ages.” During this virtual workshop, participants create a one-of-a-kind journal to write stories in using simple, easy-to-find materials from around one’s home and/or simple kits from the library.

A workshop for youths creating brown paper bag journals is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. ReThink journals for adults and teens is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13.

Register at www.nols.org/rethink-journals to receive the Zoom meeting login and reserve a free, optional kit.

Kits will be available for curbside pickup beginning Monday, Aug. 3.

KSQM series Aug. 4

John Hoover and the Mighty Quinns offer the music of John Denver at KSQM 91.5 FM’s next “Music Where You Park” series, set for at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Purple Haze Organic Lavender Farm, 180 Bell Bottom Road.

The series sees attendees in their parked cars at selected locations by 6 p.m., when KSQM 91.5 FM will begin a broadcast. The format may vary with each group, organizers say, but will include band member interviews interspersed with music that either inspired the featured musical group or some of their own original tracks. Free raffle tickets are handed out at 6:15 p.m.

Woodturner club to meet online

The Strait Turners Woodturning Club meets Tuesday, July 28, via Zoom. Eric Lofstrom will be demonstrating as the club hosts a virtual show-and-tell. While this presentation is only available to club members, call club president Jeff Foro at 206-669-9956 if interested in joining the meeting.

Sequim author releases book

Laurie Davies of Sequim has written and published “Are Unicorns Real?”, a book in dedication to her granddaughter Adina.

Many conversations came about with the question “Are unicorns real?” In 2018, Davies decided to write a children’s book about the love of unicorns, using actual questions and dialogue from her conversations from — and dedicate it to — her granddaughter.

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, the book can be purchased at Swains General Store in Port Angeles, and online at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

A Sequim native who attended local schools and Peninsula College, Davies is a board member for the Clallam County Fair and North Olympic History Center, and a Clallam County 4-H leader. She’s married to Richard (Bud) Davies, a retired Sequim dentist.

Davies has two children: Sarah, who lives in Alaska, and Mark, who lives in Florida.
