Sequim City Council member Troy Tenneson has resigned his council position.

City of Sequim representatives said Tenneson notified the city Friday that he was resigning his seat immediately because of a family emergency.

Tenneson was elected to the Sequim City Council in 2019 and has served since Jan. 1, 2020.

“This came as a shock,” Sequim Mayor William Armacost said. “Troy was born and raised in the City of Sequim. He is bright, well-educated, and walks the talk. You can take his word to the bank.

“We are going to miss the input on the City Council of a young adult in our community who can shed light from the perspective of a professional younger person. We wish Troy all the best and will do whatever we can to support him as a Council and City.”

City councilors will appoint an individual to fill the vacant city council position, City of Sequim officials said. Applicants

must be registered voters of the City of Sequim at the time of applying for candidacy, have a one-year continuous period of residence in the City of Sequim preceding his or her election to the council, and hold no other public office or employment in city government.

Interviews for the vacant position will be conducted by councilors at a regular or special meeting.

City officials plan in releasing more details about the position and the recruitment process at a later date.
