On March 26, Washington Democrats are hosting their precinct caucuses throughout the state. Democrats will gather together in the first step of choosing delegates for the Democratic National Convention and making their preference for the next president of the United States.
At the Clallam County precinct caucuses, the group chooses delegates to go the County Democratic Convention to be held on May 1 at Port Angeles High School.
At the county convention delegates will be chosen to attend the 6th Congressional District Caucus, held in Suquamish on May 21. This is where delegates will be elected to attend the National Democratic Convention in Philadelphia in July.
To find out where a specific precinct will be meeting, go to www.clallamdemocrats.org.
In order to eliminate long lines at the door, organizers are asking those who plan to attend to pre-register at www.demcaucus.com/register.
For general questions, there also is a caucus FAQ on the homepage of the Clallam County Democrats website at www.clallamdemocrats.org/uploads/4/0/0/6/400614/caucus_wsd_faqs.pdf.
Clallam County Democrats host trainings for the caucuses at various locations throughout Clallam County. It is not necessary for all caucus attendees to take these trainings but organizers encourage community members to attend to have questions answered and help make the process run as smoothly as possible.
These trainings are for everyone planning to attend the caucuses. The training in Sequim is noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
For Port Angeles area residents, interested persons may e-mail ccd@clallamdemocrats.org, call 452-0500 or stop by the Democratic Headquarters at 124-A First Ave. to register for a training.
