A team of law enforcement officers on Sept. 30 arrested Steven D. Goodman at a hotel just east of Sequim in connection with an August traffic stop that yielded a cache of drugs and a shotgun.
Goodman, 31, was taken into custody for a Clallam County Superior Court warrant and a Department of Corrections warrant, members of the Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team said on Oct. 1.
OPNET detectives, Department of Corrections officers and officers from the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force received information about Goodman’s whereabouts and took him into custody without incident.
Goodman’s criminal history includes nine felony convictions — the most recent for robbery, burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm; he also has five misdemeanor convictions for assault.
According to OPNET members, detectives serving a search warrant for the hotel room found 3.7 grams of methamphetamine (approximate street value $150) and 1.4 grams of heroin (approximate street value $140).
A second subject at the hotel, identified as 23 year-old Sarah J. Roberts, was taken into custody for a separate warrant.
The investigation into those controlled substances is ongoing.
At about 11 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, Clallam County Sheriff Deputy Eric Morris attempted to stop a vehicle — a blue and silver 1989 Ford Bronco — traveling north at about the 2000 block of Monroe Road in Port Angeles. The vehicle was traveling over the speed limit and did not have working taillights, deputies said.
The vehicle slowed to about 20 miles per hour, and when it eventually stopped about a half mile later, a passenger fled on foot.
While talking with the vehicle’s driver, Morris saw suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. After obtaining a search warrant, deputies found 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a loaded, sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia, deputies said.

The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Rischelle Heaton of Sequim, was cited for driving while license suspended in the third degree, driving without an ignition interlock device and speeding. Heaton was then released.
During a search of the area, deputies discovered a bag containing about 60 grams of suspected methamphetamine, more than $2,500 in cash and a wallet containing Goodman’s identification.
