A pedestrian who failed to obey a crosswalk signal Tuesday, Jan. 5, east of Port Angeles was struck by a full-size SUV, according to the State Patrol.

Kassandra D. Crooks, 25, of Port Angeles was transported for treatment to Olympic Medical Center after the driver of a 2003 Chevy Suburban hit her shortly before 10 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and South Brook Avenue near the Safeway gas station, according to a State Patrol memo.

Crooks was transported to Olympic Medical Center and transferred to Harborview, the State Patrol said.

She was originally listed in critical condition, but her condition was upgraded to satisfactory condition, Harborview spokesperson Susan Gregg said Sunday.

The driver of the vehicle, Jessica Larsson, 27, of Sequim, called in the collision at 9:58 p.m. after hitting Crooks while driving eastbound, according to the State Patrol.

Larsson was not hurt, the State Patrol said. She was wearing a seatbelt.

Her vehicle was damaged by the impact.

The State Patrol said Crooks was issued an infraction for failure to yield at a crosswalk signal after she ran across Highway 101, which spans five lanes, including a turning lane, at that location.
