Sequim artist David C. Willis saw one of his pieces chosen for inclusion in the 2021 Collective Visions Gallery (CVG) Show in Bremerton’s Collective Visions Gallery.

In addition, photographer Katherine Loveland and sculptor Steve Wry, current and former Blue Whole Gallery (Sequim) artists, had pieces selected for the 2021 Collective Visions Gallery.

Willis submitted three pieces to the jury for consideration last fall and one, “Peaceful Garden,” was chosen for the show opening Jan. 23.

“Peaceful Garden” was created using water based gauche and in plein air (out of doors) in his own garden.

“It’s hard to divide my time in the summer between the garden and my painting so I decided that I would try to have both,” Willis said.

“It was very rewarding to be able to really study the light and forms and colors of a Pacific Northwest garden. We live in such a place of beauty and bounty that painting it is a joy.”

The annual CVG show is one of the largest and most prestigious art competitions in the Northwest, with 295 artists from cities and towns throughout Washington state submitted more than 550 images for consideration.

Juror Michael D’Alessandro chose 130 pieces from these submissions for inclusion in the show. He’ll award more than $6,700 in cash prizes to ten artists in multiple categories.
