The cause of a downtown Sequim house fire behind the Sequim Civic Center earlier this month remains unknown.

Sequim Police Department leaders said last week that the early morning June 6 fire’s cause is inconclusive after an investigation.

Police took over the investigation from Clallam County Fire District 3 because of the fire’s proximity to the City of Sequim and their familiarity with the property, assistant fire chief Dan Orr said in a previous interview.

The fire at 153 W. Spruce St. included a home, dental lab, garage and a fifth wheel trailer, which were all deemed uninhabitable with a cost of about $300,000 lost in damages, according to fire officials.

The home was insured but the trailer was not, Orr said.

A neighbor who was living in one of the buildings at the time noticed a glow in the back of the property and helped evacuate the other four residents, Orr said. No injuries were reported.

To stop the fire from spreading to nearby apartment buildings and the SequimCivic Center, 25 firefighters responded between District 3, Clallam County Fire District 2 and East Jefferson Fire Rescue.

An update on the residents and the property was not available by press time.
