‘A Facility for Living’ opens Oct. 1 at OTA
Olympic Theatre Arts Center’s comedy production of “A Facility for Living” by Katie Forgette opens the community theatre’s 2021-2022 season on Friday, Oct. 1.
“A Facility for Living” runs through Oct. 17. Performance times are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. A Pay-What-You-Will show for any and all budgets is at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, and the first two Sunday shows offer a “Talkback” session where audiences can stay after the performance and talk with the cast and crew about the production in an open forum setting.
Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test less than 72 hours old is required for admittance into the theatre.
Tickets to this Main Stage comedy are $18 for the general public, $16 for OTA members and $12 for students with school identification card, and are available at the theatre box office from 1-4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday or online at OlympicTheatreArts.org.

Free square dance lessons set
The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club is offering a free, introductory square dance lesson at on Thursday, Oct. 7th, at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road. Subsequent lessons will be held every Thursday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. thru the fall and winter, with graduation in late spring. There is no experience necessary.
Organizers say the program is designed for those who have never square danced before but wished they had. The Rhody O’s are an informal group who dance in shorts and jeans and sometimes their gardening clothes. Masks are required.

Toastmasters to meet in person once more
Skwim Toastmasters is back to in-person gatherings, held 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the KSQM meeting room, 609 W. Washington St. Meetings are hybrid, so virtual participation is still offered.
In-person attendees are asked to arrive by 6:50 p.m. — doors shut by 7 p.m. — and wear a mask.

More than 260 eBooks and eAudiobooks for kids, teens and classics readers are now available with no waiting through OverDrive with your North Olympic Library System (NOLS) card. This special collection is always available for checkout, no holds needed.
The “No Wait — Everyone Reads!” collection includes fiction and nonfiction content, including classics, picture books, science topics and other titles to engage young learners. Adult readers can explore more than 100 classic titles, including authors such as Jack London, Jane Austen, Henry David Thoreau, George Eliot and more. Titles will be available through Sept. 1, 2024.

‘Chasing Shadows’ debuts at PAFAC
The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center kicks off its new exhibit “Chasing Shadows” on Friday, Oct. 8, at the center, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.
Members of the PAFAC are invited for a first look at the new artwork on opening day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and the exhibition is open to the public from 2-5 p.m. Masks are required for all attendees at all times in the gallery; those who are fully vaccinated may remove their masks in the courtyard if able to maintain 6 feet of social distance.
“Chasing Shadows” contains 60 artworks for sale by 31 artists from Washington state and Oregon. Sequim artists included in the exhibit include Ross Brown, Mary DePaolo, Eva Kozun and David Willis. “Chasing Shadows” will remain on display at the Esther Webster Gallery during regular gallery hours through Nov. 14. Entrance to the gallery is free/by donation.
