PT boys edge Sequim on links

In a battle of top teams, Port Townsend hit just enough fairways and greens.

Playing on their home course, the Redskins edged Sequim’s boys 426-440 behind a pair of 79s from Sean Anderson and Cody Piper.

Sequim’s Ryan O’Mera finished with a 76 and medalist honors, shooting a cool 36 on the back nine. Teammates Ezra Perkins (88), Mallory Maloney (89), Anthony Pinza (92) and Casey Torres (95) rounded out the team scorers.

Sequim’s girls were one golfer short of picking up a win against Port Townsend that same day, but with just four available golfers the Wolves and Redskins were both ineligible, resulting in a tie.

Jenny Grauberger, Port Townsend’s only player, shot a 44 in nine holes to edge Sequim ace Kim Duce by a shot. Hailey Estes finished her round in 48 shots for third overall.

It’s the only blemish on the Wolves’ record this year, as they hold a half-game lead on Kingston for the top spot in the Olympic League.

Sequim’s boys and girls were slated to host Bremerton on April 25 and the boys play at the Port Ludlow Invitational on April 26 — results of those matches were unavailable at press time.

On April 28, Sequim’s boys are at the Higgans Invite in Bremerton while Sequim’s girls host North Mason.

Both teams are back in action May 3 at Klahowya.
