A pair of Kitsap schools continue to dominate the Olympic League.

Despite a pair of losses to league leaders Bainbridge and North Kitsap, Sequim is firmly entrenched in the No. 3 spot in the league standings and second only to NK’s Vikings among 2A schools.

On Oct. 12, the Vikings edged the Wolves in the first game before taking control in a 25-22, 25-17, 25-16 victory.

Kendall Hastings led Sequim with 12 kills and was 11-for-11 serving. Jolene Vaara added six kills and was 10-for-10 serving, helping the Wolves serve a strong 50-of-52 overall, with four aces.

Allie Gale had 10 assists and libero Mia Coudriet had a season-high 32 digs to pace Sequim’s defense.

On Oct. 14, Bainbridge made it a season sweep with a dominating 25-18, 25-16, 25-10 win over the visiting Wolves (7-4 in league, 8-4 overall).

Kelsi Bergeson was 10-for-10 serving with an ace for Sequim, while Hastings (seven kills), Vaara (four) and Malory Morey (three) paced the offense. Gal had 12 assists and Hastings added seven. Vaara chipped in two blocks and Jordan Hegtvedt had a team-high 15 digs.

Sequim was scheduled to host Bremerton on Oct. 19 — results were not available at press time.

Coming up

The Wolves are at Kingston on Oct. 21 before rounding out their league regular schedule at home against North Mason on Oct. 26.

The Olympic League tourney is set for Nov. 2 and Nov. 4, with the top four teams vying for top seeding to the district tournament. With a No. 2 seed, Sequim would host No. 3 Olympic, while league-leading North Kitsap would host Kingston. Winning teams would meet on Nov. 4 for the top seed to districts.

The top six teams from West Central District 2 and 3, set for Nov. 12-13, advance to the state 2A tournament, held Nov. 19-20 at the Sun Dome in Yakima.
