Pony Club benefit this Saturday

Three members of the Ranahan Pony Club are raising funds on Saturday, May 21, at the Clallam County Co-op, 216 E. Washington St., Sequim, for their trip to Lexington, Ky., for the United States Pony Clubs Championships.

They’ll set up during the Purina Horse Owner’s Workshop to sell raffle tickets and accept donations.

Each year, clubs across the world participate in regional rallies in eventing, dressage, show jumping, quiz, games, polocrosse and tetrathlon. The culmination of these rallies is a USPC National Championship competition.

Rio Mowbray and Emily Dybedal qualified for quiz, an unmounted team quiz bowl that tests their knowledge in several rounds of questions on horse management, health, veterinary care, equitation, hunting, and nutrition.

Alison Powell qualified as a stable manager, who helps keep the team organized. Her duties might include helping her teammates pick out stalls, refilling water buckets, helping with grooming, tacking up, keeping teammates on schedule, inspecting horses and being general support.

Pony Club provides a program for youth that teaches riding, mounted sports, and the care of horses and ponies to develop responsibility, moral judgment, leadership and self-confidence.
