SYB’s Next Level levels tourney foes
The Sequim Youth Basketball’s Next Level select squad took top honors recently at the “School’s In” AAU tournament in Renton. Next Level won all four of their games, defeating teams from the Seattle and Tacoma areas. Next Level is competing in the Tacoma AAU league held each weekend through October.
Family scramble set at SkyRidge
SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway, is home to a Family Scramble, set for a 9 a.m. start on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The two-person, 18-hole medal play scramble is open to the first 36 pairings. (Entries close Oct. 13.)
Cost is $90 per team, which includes honey pot (gross and net). Fee includes green fees, range balls, KPs, team long putt and lunch. A $5 skins game is available. Carts are $13 per seat.
The “family” requirement means duos must be related by blood or marriage.

Mitchell gets fourth ace
John G. Mitchell of Sequim sank his fourth lifetime hole-in-one on Sept. 27.
He aced the 140-yard hole No. 17 at The Cedars at Dungeness.
Mitchell used a 7-iron to complete the feat.
Sequim select team hosts hoops tryouts
Tryouts for the select seventh-grade boys basketball team are slated for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, and Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Sequim High School gymnasium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
There is no cost to play and no registration form to fill out. Players need to bring athletic clothes and basketball shoes. The tryouts are organized through Sequim Youth Basketball. For more information, call Ron Sather at 477-0768.
Grand champ at 11
Sequim’s Kyle Morton has earned grand champ status — and he’s not even a teenager yet.
The 11-year-old from the Sequim-based Bodystrong Tae kwon-Do Academy earned Junior Grand Champion honors at the Region 1 tae kwon do championships in LaCenter on Sept. 24.
He topped the field with the highest cumulative score, as well as winning gold medals in sparring and breaking.

‘Citizens’ Golf tourney to aid schools
The third-annual Citizens For Sequim Schools Golf Tournament is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start Saturday, Oct. 15.
Play format is a four-person scramble.
Cost is $70 per player; fee includes 18 holes of play, cart, dinner and beverages.
Proceeds from the tournament support Citizens for Sequim Schools, a grassroots organization supporting local schools and levy efforts.
Those interested in helping sponsor the tourney may contribute at four different levels of support, from $100 to $2,500.

5K run a benefit for Pirate hoops
The Peninsula College Women’s Basketball program hosts its second annual 5K Fun Run, starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at City Pier in Port Angeles.
The event, in conjunction with the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival, is an out-and-back on the waterfront trail.
Entry fee is $25. Fee includes prizes and giveaways. Funds raised go to help support student scholarships, gear and travel for the Pirate basketball team.
