Equestrian sports: Wolves compete in second district meet

Sequim equestrians earned a dozen top-10 individual finishes and several more with teammates from Port Angeles High at the second district meet of the season, held Feb. 24-27 at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds in Elma.

Joanna Seelye scored first place in both Barrels and Individual Flags, while team captain Libby Swanberg was second in Breakaway Roping, Individual Flags, Jumping, Reigning and Working Rancher.

Sequim teammate Mia Kirner placed eighth in In-Hand Trail and 10th in Dressage. She and Swanberg placed third in Working Pairs.

Swanberg teamed up with Port Angeles’ Maggie Anderson, Haley Bishop and Sydney Hutton to place first on Team Canadian Flags.

Hutton scored an individual win in Jumping and was second in Huntseat Equitation.

The combined Sequim-Port Angeles team competes in their third and final district meet from April 8-10, also in Elma. The state finals is set for May 19-22 in Moses Lake.
