The annual fall wild mushroom show drew a continual flow of people of all ages and interests seeking to explore the world of mushrooms Saturday, Oct. 18.

The show hosted by the Olympic Peninsula Mycological Society provides opportunity for people to observe the majority of mushroom species that grow within the surrounding area.

Folks gather to the show for a variety of reasons, but for Mycological Society member Liann Finnerty, her fascination with mushrooms sprouts from her interest in extracting the dyes from the mushrooms and her passion for nature.

“There’s a thrill with being out in the woods and a thrill of having them (mushrooms) on your plate,” Finnerty said during Saturday’s show. “Mushroom hunting meets a lot of primitive human urges.”
