With another pair of big league wins, Sequim High’s boys golf squad last week pushed its league match winning streak to 59.
Sequim cruised to a 45-shot win over the host Bremerton Knights at Gold Mountain Golf Course on April 26, behind first-time match medalist Pryce Glasser’s even-par 36.
The course, having just hosted a U.S. Open qualifier the day before, was playing really tough, Sequim coach Sean O’Mera said.
“Strong, gusty winds blew the entire day, and the greens were lightning fast,” O’Mera said. “Despite all this, Pryce played by far his best round of the year.”
Glasser chipped in for birdie on the second hole, made a 15-foot birdie putt on the third and rolled in a 12-foot straight downhill putt on hole No. 4 to start three-under through four holes.
“To have your number 3 player beat everyone in the match speaks to not only how good Pryce has become, but how strong the team is in general,” O’Mera said.
Right behind Glasser was Ben Sweet with a one-over-par 37. Coming off a junior tournament in Olympia the previous weekend, Sweet had a solid short game against Bremerton, O’Mera noted, including a chip shot out of the bunker he sank on the seventh hole.
Dominic Riccobene shot a 43 for third place.
“I know he is close to breaking out and going low,” O’Mera said.
Cole Smithson was fourth with a 50, followed by Lars Wiker at 51 and Zackary Thompson at 60.
Wolves top NK
Led by match medalist Riccobene’s two-over par 37, Sequim (4-0 in Olympic League, 9-0 overall) continued its winning ways on April 28, beating North Kitsap 159-183 on the Wolves’ home course at The Cedars at Dungeness.
“Dominic played a solid round of golf — nothing too amazing, nothing too bad,” O’Mera noted.
Sweet was second with a four-over-par 39.
O’Mera said his “player of the day” was Smithson, who sank two birdies and nearly had two more. He finished with a 40, just three shots back of Riccobene.
“While he would play great in practice, he hadn’t broken out in a match,” O’Mera said of Smithson. “Most importantly … he didn’t allow himself to get rattled when he made mistakes.”
Rounding out the counting scores for the Wolves was Pryce Glasser’s eight-over-par 43. Thompson and Wiker each shot rounds of 51.
Sequim’s girls made it a clean sweep with a 211-264 win over North Kitsap.
The Wolves’ girls squad improved to 8-1 — including eight wins in a row — with senior Hannah Wagner leading the team with a 48.5 scoring average.
Seniors Sydnee Price and Juliana Tamblyn, juniors Jelissa Julmist and Isabella Williams, sophmore Emily Post and freshmen Sara German, Chloe Tweter and Isabelle Turrey have all contributed this season, SHS coach Tim Lusk said.
