Clallam Conservation District is offering a free workshop on landscaping with native plants. The workshop will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the Port Angeles Public Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The workshop will focus on environmentally friendly landscaping principles, with special emphasis on the use of native trees and shrubs. Topics such as the cultural requirements, landscaping values, aesthetic attributes, and environmental and wildlife habitat benefits of trees and shrubs native to the North Olympic Peninsula will be covered.

In addition, workshop participants will receive tips on designing a more sustainable landscape, learn how to care for bare-root trees and shrubs and prepare for planting.

Many of the plants discussed during the workshop are sold by the Conservation District as part of its annual Native Plant Sale.

The Clallam Conservation District is taking orders for bare-root native trees and shrubs through Jan. 28, 2015.

A list of plants, ordering information and an order form are available on the Conservation District webpage at www.clallamcd.org/plant-sale/ or contact the Conservation District by phone at 775-3747 or visit its office in the Armory Square building at 228 W.
