Law enforcement officials arrested a woman in Sequim last week in connection with suspect mail theft.
Sgt. John Hollis and deputies with the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle checking mailboxes on Olson Road in Sequim just after midnight on Aug. 30.
Deputies observed a spray painted black sedan slowly driving westbound on Olson Road; the driver was pointing a flashlight out the window, according to a sheriff’s office press release.
Deputies stopped the vehicle on Hooker Road and contacted the driver, Brenda Fisher, and found several pieces of mail inside the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
Fisher had a warrant for theft and was taken into custody for the warrant.
A search warrant for the vehicle was granted and deputies found 102 letters belonging to multiple people and locations in Sequim, the sheriff’s office said; among the letters were checks and debit/credit cards. Suspected heroin and meth were also found in the vehicle.
Fisher was booked into the Clallam County Correctional Facility for mail theft and possession of stolen property 2nd degree.
The seized mail is being processed by deputies and will be returned to the post office for delivery, the sheriff’s office said.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office recommends those worried about becoming a victim of mail theft to check their mail as soon as it’s delivered, or get a locking mailbox or a post office box.
Law enforcement officials said “this case is a great example of alert citizens who calleddispatch when they saw suspicious
activity.” To report suspicious activity, call 360-417-2459 (Option 1), or 9-1-1 if an emergency.
