Halloween haunts join family-friendly harvest events

This Halloween, there’s plenty of family fun and familiar frights to go around. Local businesses, churches and community groups offer trick-or-treating, trunk-or-treating, costume contests and plenty of other fun activities throughout the weekend and on Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31.

Before Halloween

• Boo Hunger campaign to begin

The Sequim Food Bank partners with Sequim High School ASB officers once again for the Boo Hunger Food Drive. Leadership students, led by senior class treasurer Isabella Williams, will place paper bags in the community on the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 26. On Nov. 1, they’ll pick up the bags. They’ve set a goal to break their record of 5,000 pounds of food.

Foods most needed include boxed macaroni and cheese, low sodium canned soup, low sugar breakfast cereal and condiments, according to food bank staff.

Through Oct. 31

• Zombies take over OTA In ‘Night of the Living Dead’

​​Olympic Theatre Arts Center, 414 N. Sequim Ave., hosts the stage adaptation of “Night of the Living Dead” at 7 p.m. Oct. 26-29, and Oct. 31, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30.

Tickets are $20 general and $15 for students. Tickets are available at olympictheatrearts.org, by calling the box office (360-683-7326) from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday or at the door.

Saturday, Oct. 29

• High Schoolers host Haunted Hallways

Sequim High School’s Haunted Hallways runs 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 in the H-building, 601 N. Sequim Ave. Costumes encouraged with child-appropriate activities with Halloween themes led by high school students. Suggested donation is one can of food for Sequim Food Bank.

• YMCA dresses up for drive-thru treats

YMCA of Sequim, 610 N. Fifth Ave., hosts a drive-thru trick-or-treat event from 4:30-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Costumes encouraged and those who walk must use sidewalks.

• Grange tantalizes with trunk-or-treat

Sequim Prairie Grange, 290 MacLeay Road, offers a walk-through Trunk-or-Treat from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Organizers say there’ll be pumpkins to carve, candy, hot dogs, chips, drinks and cookies to decorate in its outdoor kitchen.

• Boys & Girls Club brings ghastly good times

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula’s Sequim branch at 400 W. Fir St. opens from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, to offer a haunted house, scary movie, cupcake walk, arts and crafts, games, prizes, a costume contest and more. Admission is $2 for 10 games tickets, and $1 for additional tickets. Pizza is $2, or $3 to include chips and soda.

• Casino conjures up costume contest

7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, starts its annual Halloween party at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, inside Club Seven. The costume contest starts at 10 p.m. No cover charge; participants must be 21 or older. There are individual/couple prizes and group costume prizes for three or more people. Music is provided by Sway. A free shuttle available.

Halloween, Monday, Oct. 31

• Adagio tricks out trunk-or-treat

Adagio Bean & Leaf, 981 E. Washington St., offers a trunk-or-treat from 2-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 in cooperation with Sunshine Cafe and HMP Construction.

• Downtown trick-or-treating returns

Trick-or-treating returns from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at downtown Sequim businesses on Halloween. Downtown merchants and Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce bring the event back after two years. Organizers said participating businesses go from about Second Avenue to Sunnyside Avenue along Washington Street. Check the Chamber’s social media pages for a full list of participants.

• Elks enchant a drive-thru event

The Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, hosts its annual “Drive Thru Halloween” from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. Those interested in becoming an Elks club member are encouraged to inquire at the office.

• T-or-T at Sinclair Place

Sinclair Place, a senior assisted living community at 680 W. Prairie St., offers trick-or-treating for youngsters from 3-5 p.m.

• First Baptist holds harvest festival

First Baptist Church, 1323 Sequim-Dungeness Way, hosts a harvest festival from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. For more information, call 360-683-2114.

• Thrive throws a Trunk-or-Treat

Thrive Church, 640 N. Sequim Ave., offers a Trunk-or-Treat in its parking lot from 4-6 p.m. with candy, food and games.

• Valley Foursquare holds Harvest Fest

Sequim Valley Foursquare, 9090 Old Olympic Hwy., holds its Harvest Festival from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

• Faith Lutheran trunk-or-treats

Faith Lutheran Church, 354 W. Cedar St., offers a “walk through” trunk-or-treat with free treats from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 between the preschool and church. Depending on weather, the event might move inside the preschool gymnasium.

• King’s Way brings on the Bash

King’s Way Sequim, 1023 Kitchen-Dick Road, holds its “Bash” from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, outdoors with games, food and candy, and rides.

• Eastern Hills goes for the Trunk-or-Treat

Eastern Hills Community Church, 91 Savannah Lane, hosts its Trunk-or-Treat from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, outside the church with hay rides, candy, hot dogs, and more.

• Rat Racers rally at trunk-or-treat

Olympic Peninsula Rat Racers offer a Trunk-or-Treat from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at the Sequim Village Shopping Center, 651 W. Washington St. Cool vehicles on display with plenty of parking.
