Nancy Valaine Magisos
March 14, 1931 – September 6, 2022
Nancy Valaine Magisos passed away on September 6, 2022 at the age of 91.
Nancy was born in Spokane, Washington, on March 14, 1931 and grew up in the small farming town of Oakesdale where her parents started a service station and farm-vehicle repair business. Nancy studied music education at Washington State University, and was active in the Kappa Delta sorority. She met her beloved husband Joel on a blind date
while they were both in college. After graduation, Nancy began working as a teacher in Pe Ell Washington. She and Joel corresponded and dated for two years before getting married. They started their young family with three children, Melanie, Timothy, and Marc.
The family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1966, where daughter Ami was born. Nancy became a music teacher for the Columbus Public Schools and eventually taught middle school children with learning disabilities.
Nancy and Joel retired in their early 60s and moved back to Washington state where they had deep family roots. They enjoyed nearly 20 years joining and leading groups like the Sequim Bay Yacht Club and the New Dungeness Lighthouse Association, where they stayed out at the lighthouse as “keepers” a couple of times a year. A lifelong supporter of women’s rights and educational opportunity, Nancy became active with the PEO, raising money for women’s post-secondary scholarships. She and Joel learned how to pilot their boat in the Salish Sea, cruising throughout Washington and Canadian waters. Nancy became the first woman Commander of the North Olympic Power Squadron, a boating education and safety organization. She and her husband, lifelong educators, continued to organize, lead, and make their community a better place.
Nancy and Joel loved traveling. They visited all 50 states, plus Turkey, Thailand, Norway, Spain, Portugal, England, Russia, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, Panama, Australia, and New Zealand.
After Joel passed away while they were living in Payson Arizona, Nancy moved to Crista Shores Senior Living in Silverdale, Washington. In recent years, she was full of enthusiasm for many activities: She wrote biographies of Joel and her parents, attended church regularly, studied American Sign Language, learned about octopuses and other sea life, enjoyed pool exercise with friends, kept up on politics, and wrote letters to encourage voters.
Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses: Melanie Magisos (Peter Lehman), Timothy Magisos (Denise Henry), Marc Magisos (Lou Magisos) and Ami Magisos (Mars Magisos). She is also survived by her grandson Cameron Magisos (son of Timothy and Denise), her step-granddaughter Eleanor Lehman, Eleanor’s husband Jason Grantz, and their children Jonah and Lila, and by her beloved sister-in-law Sonia Eiden. Nancy’s husband, Joel Hans Magisos, her parents Leslie and Winifred Scoles, and her sister Arlene Eagle passed away in prior years.
We miss Nancy so much, yet we will always celebrate the loving, engaged, service-oriented person that she was, and inspired others to be!

Leah Ann Bollinger
02/03/1950 – 10/09/2022
Leah Ann Bollinger of Sequim, Washington, passed away peacefully October 9, 2022, at Snohomish Health and Rehabilitation. She was 72.
A private committal service will take place at Mount Angeles Memorial Park in Port angels, Washington.
Leah was born February 3, 1950, in Port Angeles, Washington to Wallace and Eleanor (Sukert) Schuman. In 1969, she married Harold Bollinger.
Leah enjoyed researching family genealogy and writing short stories. She enjoyed spending time with family and attending church.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa (Mark) Grigsby of Snohomish, WA; her sister, Renee and granddaughter Sara. She was preceded in death by both parents; husband Harold Bollinger and brother Don Schuman.

Hester Ann Crary
Hester Ann Crary of Sequim died of age-related causes at Sherwood Assisted Living on Oct. 25, 2022.
She was 93.
Crary was born Aug. 10, 1929.

John Early Schreiner
5/29/1927-10/23/2022
On October 23, 2022 John, a very private person in most respects, made his transition to his next life of eternal peace. He passed away at home in the care of Kathy, his loving wife of 50 years. John was born in Mt. Lebanon, PA to G. Reed Schreiner and Virginia Nancy Early. After graduating from high school, John joined the U.S. Coast Guard on the day after his 18 th birthday. He served as head cook at Loran Station in the Phoenix Islands in the south Pacific theater during WW2. He always joked that it was his great food that helped his fellow “Coasties” to win that phase of the war.
After serving in the Coast Guard, John graduated from Cornell College in New York with a degree in hotel accounting. One of his first jobs was with Matson Navigation where he worked in hotel accounting at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu. His next professional step took him to CA and the challenge of being self-employed. He and his partners owned and operated a real estate company. This career lasted until the real estate market dropped and John accepted a new professional challenge as VP of Income Property Lending for Bank of Hawaii in Honolulu. John enjoyed this position as he assisted with financing of many existing Hawaii income properties. On December 31, 1989 he left this career for his forever job RETIRED AND LOVING IT!! John and Kathy moved to the Olympic Peninsula in October 1992.
His interests were many and varied. Tending his Father’s vegetable garden at the early age of 10 started his life-long relationship with the soil while providing him with a weekly allowance. His strong appreciation for nature in all its forms and this love of the land, the forests, in fact all of God’s lovely creation is why he so enjoyed living on the Olympic Peninsula.
John’s passions were traveling, music and model railroad building. He and his daughter Cathy Hoyt were an awesome duo. John wrote the lyrics while Cathy provided the music. He enjoyed music, but not all music. It had to have a beat. His all-time favorite was Dixieland and his favorite song as you probably guessed was “When the Saints Go Marching In”. John’s passion for music included playing drums, piano and in later years, ukulele with his daughter Cathy. His parents experienced firsthand John’s musical passion as his high school rock group practiced regularly.
John was preceded in death by his youngest son Jon Christopher and his parents. He is survived by his wife Kathy; his sister Nancy Hubley and children Cathy (Greg Hoyt), Lanny (Ann) Schreiner, and Dori (Rod O’Dell) in addition to grandchildren, great grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
At his request, there will be no services. John would be appreciative of donations made in his memory to Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, any U. S. Veterans organization or Peninsula Friends of Animals. A Celebration of Life is planned on John’s birthday in 2023. Details will come later.
