Milestone: Gussman gets Audubon kudos

Local photographer/filmmaker John Gussman received the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society’s 2022 Conservation Award on Oct. 19.

Gussman received the honor “for his outstanding contributions to the conservation of wildlife and their habitats,” according to a certificate announcing the award.

“Through his lenses and talented editing he creates art that moved us to act,” the honor notes.

Gussman produced a drone video at Kirner Pond of Trumpeter swans whose flight paths were put in danger by overhead power lines.

“The video convinced our community to open their hearts and wallets and fund a power line burial project,” the honor noted.

“John generously shares his images of nature to promote our fullest appreciation of the unique value and beauty of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. With us, he meets the challenge of protecting our natural habitats for birds, other wildlife, and people. He embodies a lifelong commitment to the natural world.”
